The TM1062FSA is a transceiver designed for serial communications applications. It is an integrated part of the Optoelectronics Group, which is an application field of the Lattice Semiconductor Corporation. It offers serial communications over a single pair of twisted-shielded pair lines.
The TM1062FSA transceiver integrates two half-duplex modem functions into a single IC and provides a cost-effective solution that supports half-duplex serial communications over a single pair of twisted-shielded pair lines. It utilizes a unique architecture that allows the chip to sense when it has received valid data from another device. It is then able to pass the data to a microcontroller without the need for an external comparator.
The device has four operating modes: Mode 0 for normal operation; fixed low-speed operation; fixed high-speed operation; and ‘percent power’ operation. In Mode 0, the device is connected to a twisted-shielded pair line and operates in a synchronous mode. When data is transmitted or received, the TM1062FSA transmits and receives data at constant speeds, while the differential voltage (VREF), continuously varies. In the fixed low-speed operating mode, the TM1062FSA transmits and receives data at a fixed baud rate. In the fixed high-speed operating mode, the TM1062FSA transmits and receives data at a higher baud rate. In the ‘percent power’ operating mode, the device provides a percent power solution that allows the device to send and receive data at different speed settings.
The TM1062FSA transceiver also has two independent transmitter functions that allow two different transmission speeds. The two transmitter functions of the TM1062FSA can be configured with different settings for transmission speed, delay time, and even for scheduling time. The transmitted data is monitored by the internal clock of the TM1062FSA and compared with the data from the receiver side before transmission.
The main applications of the TM1062FSA transceiver are in the industrial field. It can be used for communication between devices such as PLCs and HMIs, for communication between devices in the factory automation system and for communication between sensors and controllers. The working principle of the TM1062FSA transceiver is based on a half-duplex model whereby information is exchanged between two devices in an alternating manner. On the transmitting side, data is sent through the differential pair using differential signaling. As the data is transmitted, the differential voltage (VREF) is continuously varied so that the device is able to recognize when valid data is being sent. On the receiving side, the differential pair is monitored for current, which indicates the presence of a valid data signal. When valid data is present, then the device is able to pass the data to a microcontroller.
