Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits is a wide and varied field in the engineering and technical product development. Various elements of the kits are designed to assess the outcome of particular projects, the success or failure of processes and the final product performance. In many cases the evaluation board or kit is used to provide simulation and testing environments to validate designs and optimize solutions.

The TMC5130-EVAL is a typical example of an evaluation and demonstration board and kit. It is designed to enable engineers and technicians to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of the TMC5130 step/direction stepper motor controller IC, as used in step motor applications, and to measure the electrical performance of the motor. This application field uses the TMC5130 microstepping stall detector, a high integration 8-bit motion controller to accelerate and control brushed DC motors.

The TMC5130-EVAL is fitted with a wide variety of on board sensors including hall sensors, encoder sensors, temperature and humidity sensors, as well as a number of digital and analog input/output features. The on board sensors allow the engineer or technician to measure motor torque, speed, position, acceleration, deceleration and frequency, thus providing an accurate characterization of the stepper motor performance.

The TMC5130-EVAL features an extensive set of parameters that can be adjusted via an onboard user interface. These parameters include maximum torque, motor speed, maximum current, acceleration and stall detection time. Additionally, the TMC5130-EVAL can be configured for dual stepping motors allowing multiple outputs to be changed at the same time. This configuration allows the user to create a multi-axis motion system.

The TMC5130-EVAL includes a number of peripherals for increased functionality. The on board thermistor allows the user to monitor temperature and the accelerometer allows the user to accurately measure the motor\'s acceleration. The on board logic ports allow the motor to be interfaced with external logic inputs allowing external control of the motor. Additionally, the board can be connected to a PC or handheld device to enable the user to visually examine in real-time the motor\'s performance across various speed and load conditions.

The TMC5130-EVAL also features a number of braking features that enable the user to better control the motor\'s speed and position. By using an external PID controller the user is able to precisely regulate motor speed, position and torque. An integrated ramp generator can also be used to control the motor\'s speed during acceleration and deceleration.

The TMC5130-EVAL is the ideal tool to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of the TMC5130 step/direction stepper motor controller IC. It provides a comprehensive set of features and parameters that allow engineers and technicians to accurately measure and characterize the motor\'s electrical performance. With support for dual stepping motors and advanced features such as thermistor sensing, accelerometer sensing, braking and logic port interfacing the TMC5130-EVAL provides a highly versatile platform to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of the TMC5130.
