The architecture of the processor also includes an ARM7TDMI-S™ core which implements the ARMv4T instruction set, a memory management unit (MMU) with 4KB of on-chip memory, and a set of ARM DSP-like extensions for single-cycle MAC operation.
Working Principle
The core of the TMS470R1A384PGET is the ARM® Cortex-M7™ processor, a 32-bit processor designed for embedded applications. The Cortex-M7 processor is optimized for real-time control applications due to its real-time, low-power and high-speed architecture. It is fully compatible with the ARMv7-M architecture and hence supports the ARMv7-M instruction set. The Cortex-M7 processor also features a number of advanced features such as the CoreSight debug system, Memory Protection Unit (MPU) and Configurable Memory Protection Unit (CMPU), as well as an advanced interrupt controller with priority level support.
The ARM® Cortex-M7 processor runs at up to 120MHz and is capable of executing 32-bit single-cycle instructions. The processor is capable of executing two instructions per clock cycle, which boosts the overall performance of the processor. The Cortex-M7 processor includes an advanced Direct Memory Access (DMA) controller, which transfers data from RAM to peripheral or bus interfaces quickly and efficiently. The Cortex-M7 processor also supports many peripheral controllers including PARC (Peripheral Access Register Control) and SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) for faster and reliable communication with external peripherals.
The TMS470R1A384PGET devices are also equipped with a wide range of on-chip peripherals to support a variety of specialized functions. These include two CAN interfaces, two SPI devices, two UARTS, one I2C interface, four PWMs, one ADC, two Comparators and up to 128KB of external RAM. The on-chip peripherals include also a watchdog timer and embedded real-time clock module. Additionally, there are powerful low-power (LP) modes designed for battery operated applications.
