The TOP209GN-TL is a highly efficient AC/DC converter with an offline single-phase active-clamp reset forward composition. It is a part of the TOPSwitch-GX family of integrated offline switchers, incorporating unique features to provide high efficiency and rugged operation. The TOP209GN-TL also includes a high voltage start-up circuit, a low-voltage operation voltage drop, and a built-in MOSFET.

The TOP209GN-TL operates at up to 400kHz, with a peak efficiency of 92%. It offers a wide 4:1 input voltage range and a very robust over-temperature protection. The PFC pre-regulator for the TOP209GN-TL may be an AC voltage `divider or an AC voltage chopper. The system starts up using the PFC pre-regulator and then maintains the output voltage accuracy and stability using the active-clamp reset forward composition. The TOP209GN-TL also incorporates a current mode control loop with an internal current sense resistor, a low voltage trip mode, and a current limitation feature.

The TOP209GN-TL enables design of power supplies for applications operating up to 250VAC, such as home appliances, printers, and white goods. The device can be used in a variety of offline and line-transformerless PFC pre-regulator topologies. The TOP209GN-TL provides a high-level integration of many features that facilitate the design of power supplies up to 200W, including improved standby efficiency and no opto-coupler needed. These features also result in lower component count and cost savings associated to the design complexity. In addition, the TOP209GN-TL offers high voltage start-up and enables forward or flyback transformer solutions. As a result, the TOP209GN-TL provides a highly efficient and cost effective solution for AC-DC applications up to 200W.
