TPS2350D is a Hot Swap controller developed by Texas Instruments. It provides resiliency for circuits powered by a wide variety of power sources including AC, DC, and USB. Designed for maximum system availability, the TPS2350D ensures power from the source is continuously provided to the load, even in the case of power source failure or unplugging. In addition, the TPS2350D will monitor supply voltages and provide alerts in the case of undervoltage or overvoltage conditions.
Application Field
The TPS2350D is ideal for applications where redundant power systems are required. It is especially suited for power sequencing and sequencing of multiple power rails on a system board. Working Principle
The TPS2350D consists of two voltages sources, the input voltage and the output voltage. The input voltage is the voltage source of the system, which is controlled by a switching FET. When the device is powered up, the FET is turned on to supply the necessary voltage to the system. When the device is powered down, the FET is turned off and the system is disconnected from the supply voltage. The output voltage is the voltage given out to the system, which is regulated by a voltage reference and a comparator. The voltage reference is based on a programming resistor between the supply voltage and ground.
The TPS2350D includes an overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit. This circuit compares the input voltage to an adjustable voltage set by the voltage reference circuit. If the input voltage exceeds the set voltage, the OVP circuit will shut off the FET and disconnect the system from the supply voltage. This reduces the risk of permanent damage to system components.
The TPS2350D also provides a current limiting feature. This feature limits the current flowing into the system and can help protect against costly short circuit fault conditions. The current limiting is adjustable from 0.1 A to 2.2 A, allowing it to be tailored to meet the specific needs of the application.
In addition to the protections mentioned above, the TPS2350D also provides other features such as reverse current blocking, power good indicator, and over-temperature protection.
