TPS3779DDRYT is a low-voltage, ultra-low power supervisor IC used for monitoring and controlling voltage rails in systems powered by 2.7 V to 5.5 V. Designed for high-accuracy overvoltage and undervoltage conditions, the device features an industry-leading typical standby current of 0.2 μA and a watchdog timer that can detect signal faults up to 10 ms faster than competing solutions.Widely used in portable electronic equipment, sensor systems, wearable electronics and consumer applications, TPS3779DDRYT is well suited for reduced-power applications where the input voltage is expected to rise due to high-impedance input supplies. The TPS3779DDRYT’s working principle is based on the comparison of two thresholds. The first is the Undervoltage Threshold or UVLO, which is the voltage level, when reached or exceeded, causes an output from the device. The Undervoltage Threshold, also known as the Reset Threshold, is set to a minimum of 2.7V and to a maximum of 5.5V for this supervisor IC.
The second threshold, the Overvoltage Threshold or OVLO, is used to detect overvoltage events above an adjustable or factory programmed reset threshold. The resetting of the OVLO threshold is done either through a voltage divider when external programming is needed, or can be factory pre-programmed.
When the voltage monitored by the TPS3779DDRYT’s voltage feedback pin after a reset is below the reset threshold, the device will pull the reset pin low. This low output signals to the system that the voltage is below the minimum and that the system should not be powered. When the device senses a voltage above the reset threshold and an appropriate amount of time for the voltage to stabilize has passed, the device will reset, thus signaling the system to power up and operate.
