The Texas Instruments TPS3823-30DBVR belongs to the category of Power Management ICs, more specifically known as Supervisors. The supervisor ICs are based on the concept of “Self-protection” from extreme overvoltages, mainly in circuits related to power management, where a specific voltage or current threshold needs to be monitored constantly. This device is a low voltage supervisor with a fixed voltage supervisor threshold of 3.6 V. It provides voltage detection, reset output short-circuit current. It also has other features such as 24 HOUR Battery monitoring, systematic protection, high noise immunity and adjustable protection.

Working Principle of TPS3823-30DBVR

The TPS3823-30DBVR operates using one input and one output. The input is the voltage supply which is monitored, and the output is a reset signal. The device sets a trigger threshold at 3.6 V, and as soon as the supply voltage passes this threshold, the reset signal is generated. This reset signal is used to reset the device and protect it from overvoltages. The device also has an adjustable protection threshold that can be set from 0.85v to 5.5v. This adjustable protection threshold can be used to shutdown the devices, or inhibit the reset signal in case of an overload.

The device also has an integrated 24 HOUR battery monitor that helps in monitoring battery level. While coming to the noise immunity feature, it provides high noise immunity with a noise margin of 0.2V. This helps in avoiding false triggers due to switching noise. The device also has a maximum reset signal time of 1.28 ms. There is also a power-saving mode where the device draws very low current when not in use.
