Working Principle

The TPS40050PWPRG4 provides effective DC/DC control of step-down power converters and contains synchronous rectifier drive logic and enabling. It is designed to provide pulse-width modulation (PWM) control of a step-down DC/DC converter. At the heart of TPS40050PWPRG4 is the Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) controller which drives a low on-resistance power MOSFET stages. It carries out the tasks associated with the step-down control and is supported by an oscillator and an internal voltage reference. Additionally, the TPS40050PWPRG4 has an integrated current limit and thermal shutdown protection.

The internal oscillator is set for a 500 kHz fixed frequency operation and it also includes two outputs for various phase adjustments. The PWM controller operates in phase-shifted full-bridge mode in order to reduce EMI and improve efficiency.
