TPS40090RHDTG4 application field and working principle

A switch-mode power supply, or SMPS, is an electronic power supply that uses switching transistors to convert electrical power effectively. The TPS40090RHDTG4 is a synchronous rectified buck controller used in the switch mode power supply. This switcher IC is specified under the DC-DC switching controller family.

Working Principle

The TPS40090RHDTG4 is an analog synchronous rectified buck controller that uses a high-speed analog current-mode power stage and an integrated gate driver to provide very fast transient response, low output voltage ripple, and high efficiency. It also provides an accurate voltage measurement across the load.

When the input voltage is applied to the device, the switch mode power supply will be powered up and the output voltage level is set between 0V and 1.20V. The voltage is compared with the reference voltage and then rectified. This rectified reduces the input voltage in order to provide power at the desired voltage level.

The TPS40090RHDTG4 also uses the advanced current mode control technology, which minimizes system losses in order to obtain high energy efficiency. This technology helps maintain a stable output voltage and current levels to avoid over-current and a sudden temperature rise.
