The TPS43340EVM is a Texas Instruments designed and developed evaluation module (EVM) board, meant for attendees who are participating in an evaluation program or seminar dealing with DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) applications.The EVM board has a few components on it, as one would expect to find on an evaluation board, such as power MOSFETS, DC/DC & power converters, filters, and measurement instruments. The objective behind the TPS43340EVM evaluation board is to serve as a platform to evaluate, understand, and test the various features and performance characteristics of the TPS43340 family of DC/DC & power converters.

This TPS43340EVM is designed to deliver a high-frequency DC/DC & AC/DC switching solution with very low-noise, fast transient response, excellent line and load regulation, high efficiency, current and footprint compatibility with other similar Texas Instruments products. In addition, the EVM board serves as an educational tool to teach attendees about the principles and applications of various power control techniques.

Working principle of the TPS43340EVM is simple and extremely efficient. The board includes a high-frequency DC/DC & AC/DC switching solution with very low-noise, fast transient response, excellent line and load regulation, high efficiency, and current and footprint compatibility with other power controllers. The board is designed to power two loads, one wide Vin range input, and one adjustable output ranging from 10V to 400V. The power switching is driven by a wide-input voltage range MOSFET driver, which operates at up to 4MHz.

The board also includes a monitoring and control system with a LCD display, an adjustable current sense, a voltage reference, a microprocessor, a temperature sensor, and a logic control port. The on-board LCD allows for enabling and disabling of the power supply as well as current and voltage settings and can be used for testing, monitoring and evaluation of the various features and performance characteristics of the TPS43340 family of power controllers. The adjustable current sense allows the user to set the amount of current delivered to the load, and the voltage reference provides a base reference point for the microprocessor, as well as other analog components.

The board also includes a power management IC, which monitors and controls the flow of current through the power stages and provides a Power Good signal when the power supply is operating properly.
