The TPS56300PWP is a low-power synchronous buck converter with integrated high side and low side MOSFETs, designed to handle up to 6A of output current. The device can be used as either a Linear or Switched Mode application depending on the settings used by the user.

The TPS56300PWP offers an efficient low power solution for applications such as notebook, PC/servers, automotive and industrial equipment. It features an internal voltage reference and fixed frequency PWM (frequency range from 200KHz-2.2MHz). Additionally, the device provides programmable soft-start and supports adjustable output voltage, current limit and thermal shutdown.

It is suitable for powering a wide array of applications, such as PCs, notebooks, gaming consoles and automotive systems. Working Principle

The TPS56300PWP is based on a synchronous buck topology, applied commonly in low power applications. The device operates in Liner or Switched Mode and consists of an internal voltage reference, drive stage and PWM control block. The internal voltage reference is used to provide the reference voltage for the pulse-width modulator which generates the pulse width modulation signal used to regulate the output voltage. The drive stage is responsible for controlling the ON and OFF times of the high side and low side MOSFETs, which functions by switching the power connections between the input voltage and the output voltage. The internal slew rate limits and dead times are designed to be optimal for low-power operations preventing power losses. The device supports current sharing up to 4 devices in series.

In order to provide more consumer protection, the TPS56300PWP device has a programmable current limit and thermal shutdown protection, which will shut down the device when temperature exceeds a preset threshold. It also supports adjustable soft-start which prevents large inrush currents and helps slowly raising the output voltage.
