PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear
TS39104CS is a linear voltage regulator designed with advanced low dropout circuitry. It can provide a stable voltage to the electrical devices powered by the power supply, thus mitigating problems caused by excessive voltage fluctuations.
Application Field
The TS39104CS is applicable for communication systems, computer core boards, disk drives, microscopes, digital printers, network devices and other digital or analog-driven devices. Its output voltage range is from 0.8V to 3.3V and its current can be set up to 2.8A.
Working Principle
The TS39104CS provides precise output regulation under various environmental conditions of power supply and load. It works by sensing the voltage of the output terminal and adjusting the internal reference voltage according to the voltage drop which exists between the output terminal and the regulated output. The regulated output is obtained when the reference voltage is equal to the output voltage and the circuit is latched.
The TS39104CS has an input capacitor(Cin), a filter capacitor (Cf) and an output capacitor (Cout). The input capacitor Cin helps filter the input voltage to reduce noise, while the filter capacitance Cf helps ensure an optimal signal to the integrated circuit. The output capacitor Cout is responsible for maintaining the output voltage at a specified level.
The other two main parts of the circuit are the transistors Q1 and Q2. The transistor Q1 is responsible for controlling the current flowing through the resistor R2 and thereby setting the output voltage. The transistor Q2, acting as a switch, is used to enable Resistor R2 to adjust the output voltage when required.
The TS39104CS working in linear mode, is not very efficient because the power is dissipated into the resistors in the form of heat. As the current increases, the heat increases, which causes the output voltage to fluctuate, resulting in current consumption being higher than normal.
The operation of the TS39104CS is designed to have few thermal issues. Therefore, it operates at an acceptable temperature range and provides stability even with various load and power supply conditions.
