Aluminum electrolytic capacitors consist of anodes and cathodes made of aluminum foil, a separator made of paper, and a 120V electrolyte. They are commonly used for applications such as power supplies, DC-DC converters, audio or video circuits, or other digital circuit boards. The TVX2D100MCD features two capacitors that feature a total capacitance of 100µF. The device also features an ESR of 160 mΩ, a rated ripple current of 5.1A (at 100KHz/125 °C) , and a maximum operating temperature of 125°C.

The TVX2D100MCD features two separate components, one anode and one cathode, with the anode being the positive terminal and the cathode the negative terminal of the device. The mechanism for the device is simple: Current flows through the capacitor due to the induced voltage between the anode and the cathode. As current flows, an electric field is created and charges the anode with electrons from the external source of current.

The process of charge buildup at the anode is called polarization and involves the oxidation of the aluminum anode. When the capacitor is exposed to voltage, current flows through it, generating heat. This heat is dissipated and the two terminals can be kept cool. The anode always has a positive voltage and the cathode always has a negative voltage. The separation of the cathode and anode gives a certain amount of insulation that allows electrons to flow away from the anode after they become polarized.

The TVX2D100MCD utilizes polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitors that have been specially designed with a capacitor series design to maximize capacitance levels. The capacitors have very low ESR and wide temperature range for use in different temperature conditions, as well as high ripple current ratings for switching power supply applications. This ensures better capacitor performance in light load and high frequency switching applications. It is ideal for microprocessor-based systems, portable power systems, and power generation (not vehicle system). Capacitance and voltage adjustable designs are also available for this series.

The TVX2D100MCD is ideal for high-current applications, as it is capable of handling up to 5.1A continuous current at its rated ripple current, and 5.2A surge current. It can also handle up to 16A of peak current at its surge current rating. With its temperature range of -55°C to +125°C, the TVX2D100MCD is suitable for use in extreme environmental conditions, making it ideal for telecommunication, power line communication, computing, consumer, and industrial applications.
