A voltage regulator is a key component in any power supply system and it is used to provide constant and regulated power to different devices. The UA7805CKCS is a three-terminal linear voltage regulator integrated circuit (IC) manufactured by Texas Instruments and it is widely used regulator IC which offers safety and excellent performance in a variety of voltage regulation applications.

The UA7805CKCS is a family of adjustable positive voltage regulator and it is designed to provide up to 5A output with an input voltage of 2.5V to 25V. These voltage regulators come with a fixed output voltage of 5v and the actual output voltage set is done using an external resistor network. It also features protected overload, thermal shut down and current limit ensuring total protection of the system.

The UA7805CKCS is available in two packages SO8 and DIP-8 and it has three major pins which are GND (ground pin), IN (Input pin) and OUT ( Output pin). The working principle of the voltage regulator is based on a classical control theory, in which the voltage is set by comparing the input voltage to an internal reference voltage which is set to 5V and the difference between them is then used to control current externally. In this way, it ensures that the output voltage remains at the same level even when the input voltage changes.

The UA7805CKCS voltage regulator finds its application mainly in powering digital electronics or providing constant regulated power to circuits which generally have fluctuating input voltage. This can be seen in computer motherboards where the voltage regulator is used to regulate power using an external resistor network.
