An Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor (AEC) is an electrical component that can store electrical energy in an electric field. AECs are composed of an anode (positive electrode) aluminum foil and a cathode (negative electrode) foil separated by a dielectric material, a paper impregnated with an electrolyte solution.
