UC2844D is a high-speed current-mode Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller with special design to meet complex and demanding control applications. It is ideal for digital power conversion, with its wide spectrum of features for controlling and managing power in a range of digital consumer electronics devices. In order to ensure the system stability and operation reliability, the UC2844D family is designed for reliable and harmonics generating digital control that is highly efficient and low cost.

The UC2844D family can be used to control switching DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC and AC-AC converters. It controls an N-channel MOSFET to realize PWM output and covers a wide range of applications like SBVS, SEPIC, and buck, boost, flyback, forward and half-bridge topologies.

The UC2844D’s internal circuitry is composed of the following components:

• Input logic – This chip is capable of voltage regulation and current regulation, which requires a set of input logic signals.
• Output blocks – The PWM output block provides the necessary current to drive the power MOSFET switch that is used to control the voltage or current to a given target.
• Error amplifiers – These circuits compare the input voltage to the reference, allow it to adjust the duty cycle of the power switch and monitor any deviation of the output voltage.
• Power-on reset – This circuit can detect the input power level or the output voltage to initiate the PWM control.
• Current sense – This circuit can sense the load current and provide the power on control current. This circuit can detect the voltage drop across the internal power MOSFET.
• Control block – This block contains an oscillator that generates the PWM signal and a dimming control circuit.

The UC2844D can provide up to 10A peak current capability. In addition, it has an independent bias operation and selectable current limit control mode. It also has fast response time and enable/disable functions that allow for flexible control of the power switch.
