The UCC3580N-3 is a part of the PMIC (Power Management IC) collection of voltage regulators. This DC-DC Switching controller possesses the capacity to control DC/DC buck converters in sequence with input voltages ranging from 4.0V to 24V. It is customized for leveraging both voltage and current mode control principles. The device is specially designed for Voltage Mode applications and hence, very much suitable for sensor, LED driver, and audio amplifier plants. It effectively reduces the size of products and board space including offering higher efficiency and constant output current. The device also encompasses 0.8V tolerance of output voltage.
Working Principle
The external synchronous rectifier is used by the UCC3580N-3 to pass the PWM input of highest voltage that is greater than the value of the feedback voltage. The particular PWM must be obtained from any intentional or external PWM. A constant frequency of fixed frequency is obtained by pulse width modulating which leads to producing a good control. A voltage loop feedback is used to monitor the output voltage and it sets a certain limit to increase or decrease the output voltage according to the requirement.
It is ensured by the UCC3580N-3 that the voltage regulator sends very less current or no current factually to the top switch until the output voltage is lesser than the feedback voltage. In the same way, it prevents the current from flowing until the voltage output is greater than the feedback voltage. The output voltage remains constant within the range as the Pulse Width Modulation is directly proportional to the output voltage.
