Aluminum Electrolytic CapacitorsAluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in electronics because of their low cost, high volumetric efficiency, and ease of automatic assembly. They are particularly useful in applications where high capacitances, low heat production, and long life are required. The UKW1H2R2MDD is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor with a “half-cylindrical” shape that offers higher capacitances in a given size than most other types of capacitors. It is especially suitable for use in applications where space is a concern, such as medical implantable devices, automotive electronics, and high-voltage and high-temperature applications.The UKW1H2R2MDD is a high-temperature aluminum electrolytic capacitor with a maximum operating temperature of 125°C and a high ripple current rating. It has a long shelf life, and its narrow design contributes to its high mechanical stability and minimizes in-circuit parasitic inductance. The UKW1H2R2MDD capacitor is constructed of an anode aluminum tube that is chemically coated, an anode foil with a homogenous aluminum oxide layer, an anode cut, and an anode resistor/electrolyte block. The outer surface of the aluminum tube is anode connected, and the anode cut impacts the electrical field distribution and increases the surge current and ripple current capability. The anode foil provides the electrical insulation between the anode and the cathode. The anode resistor and electrolyte block regulate the capacitor’s charge/discharge current and reduce the dissipation factor. The anode cut also reduces the size of the capacitor, allowing it to fit into tight spaces.When the UKW1H2R2MDD capacitor is electrically charged, a voltage drop forms between the anode and cathode. This voltage drop causes a current to flow through the electrolyte between the anode and cathode, creating a dielectric layer of aluminum oxide that increases the capacitor’s capacitance. When the capacitor is discharged, the anode and cathode become an open circuit and the current flow stops. The electrolyte then dissolves the dielectric layer, allowing the capacitor to discharge. The UKW1H2R2MDD is an ideal choice for applications requiring high capacitance at relatively high temperatures, such as in automotive electronics and high-voltage and high-temperature applications. Its high capacitance, combined with its high ripple current rating and narrow design, makes it a cost-effective solution for these applications.
