The UMAF5817 is a silicon avalanche diode with an extended voltage range from 600 V to 1000 V and supports an integrated reverse and pluggable current of 58 A. It is a single rectifier designed for applications such as lighting, welding, soft start-up and stabilization of power supplies, or for voltage regulation and current sensing in medical, control and telecommunication components.The UMAF5817’s working principle is based on the classic p-n junction diode concept. A silicon device is made as extended voltage range and supports an integrated reverse and pluggable current. The UMAF5817 functions as a rectifier and provides a fixed rectified voltage when a current flows through it. The rectified voltage is strictly proportionate to the applied AC voltage, so the peak inverse voltage rating of the diode determines the maximum voltage that the device can withstand.The UMAF5817 features avalanche breakdown protection, which enables the device to operate safely by preventing excessive current from flowing through it. Instead of burning out, it just drops down to a safe level of current where the diode sweeps away the violations from the system and thereby protects the components from damage.
