Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are most commonly used in a wide range of consumer electronic applications. They are made of foil, an electrolyte and a dielectric. The foil is usually etched with a series of ridges, which form the plates of the capacitor. The dielectric, usually made of tin oxide, is placed between the plates and is in a gaseous or liquid form depending on the application. The electrolyte is usually a solution of boric acid and can also vary depending on the application.

The UPJ1J561MHD is a radial lead aluminum electrolytic capacitor. It is an oxygen-free, low-impedance aluminum electrolytic capacitor, designed for use in industrial, automotive, audio, RF and many other applications. It is rated for temperatures up to 125°C and provides a maximum capacitance of 2.2µF. Its capacitance tolerance is ±20%, and it can be used under a rated voltage of 28VDC.

The UPJ1J561MHD possesses excellent AC characteristics and very low ESR values, making it suitable for high-frequency and high-current applications. Its design also helps to reduce audible noise and improve ripple-current capability. Because of its high-temperature and operational stability, it is ideally suited for high-reliability conditions in automotive, telecom and industrial applications. It is also used in refinements of digital audio systems, signal conditioning and power supply related operations.

The working principle of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor is based on the concept of dielectric polarization. In these capacitors, the anode and cathode are separated by an electrolyte solution. When voltage is applied to the terminals, a current passes through the electrolyte, resulting in the generation of an electric field between the plates. This field creates a polarization of the molecules between the plates, which stores the charge as the capacitor becomes charged.

When the switched is disconnected, charges of similar magnitude are trapped in each of the plates, which work as insulators. This mechanism provides the capacitor with a capacitance between the plates, which can be used to store energy in the form of electrical current. The capacitance of aluminum electrolytic capacitors range from 0.1µF to more than 4,700µF.
