The working principle of UPS2D220MPD capacitor can be described as follow: A thin layer of oxide is formed on the surface of two aluminum foils which act as the two capacitor electrodes. A viscous electrolyte is inserted between both electrodes and acts as the dielectric for the capacitor. During operation, the voltage applied across the capacitor causes migration of ions through the oxide layer from one electrode to the other, forming the capacitance of the device. As the voltage is changed, the ions move back and forth in response and the capacitance of the device changes accordingly.
