Working Principle

This continues until the capacitance reaches its maximum value. The thickness of the oxide layer is proportional to the voltage applied, thus the capacitance of the capacitor varies with the voltage applied. This is why aluminum electrolytics are characterized as having a specific rated voltage.In certain applications, aluminum electrolytic capacitors may be used to suppress ripple currents or to store electrical energy. The capacitive reactance of an aluminum electrolytic across the frequency range is much lower than that of other electrolytic types, allowing the capacitor to provide much higher levels of ripple current. Additionally, the large capacitance values available make them ideal for storing energy.
