Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, also known as electrolytic capacitors, use aluminum foil as the anode and a special paper as the insulation layer. The cathode is formed by anodizing the aluminum foil and depositing manganese dioxide (MnO2) on it. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors have excellent heat resistance, high reliability, large capacitance, and low price but their shortcomings are high equivalent series resistance (ESR), longer replacement times, and low ripple current.

The capacitor utilizes the interface between aluminum oxide and electrolyte to form a dielectric barrier. The oxide forms a semi-conductor between the aluminum and the electrolyte, while the electrolyte ensures the correct conduction of current. In order to maintain high efficiency, anode and cathode must be kept at ideal distance. The voltage across the capacitor causes an electric field in the gap between the electrodes, thus forming an inductive capacitance. The capacitance is determined by the area of the anode and cathode, as well as the distance between them.Apart from its excellent electrical characteristics, UPW2V101MRD also has many attractive features, such as a wide capacitance range from 0.05 to 68,000 µF, a life expectancy of 20000-40000 hours, ripple current ratings up to 4.55A, maximum operating temperatures up to 125°C, and low leakage current.
