Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in consumer and industrial electronics, as well as power supplies for computers, air conditioners and other applications. The UVK2C471MHD capacitor is a standard-sized aluminum electrolytic capacitor. It is a four-terminal surface mounted device with a capacitance of 47uF and a maximum voltage rating of 400V. It has a low ESR and high ripple current rating and is designed for use in high-end consumer and commercial electronics equipment, as well as industrial and medical applications. The operating principle of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor is based on the Faraday’s law of electrolysis. When an electric current is passed through an electrolyte, the positively charged ions move towards the negatively charged surface and deposit metal plates on that surface. This forms a layer of metal on the surface which acts as a conductor between the two surfaces. This effect is used in the manufacture of aluminum electrolytic capacitors. At the negatively charged plate, called the cathode, the electrolyte’s ions are attracted and deposit metal on the surface. This deposited metal forms a layer of an electrolyte-insulated metal film, called the dielectric. The positively charged plate, or the anode, is separated from the cathode by the dielectric. The current flows from the anode to the cathode, passing through the dielectric and is stored as an electric charge. When a potential difference is applied across the capacitor, the anode stores positive charge and the cathode stores negative charge. The voltage across the terminals of the capacitor is determined by the total volume of the electrolyte and the amount of charge stored in the capacitor. The UVK2C471MHD capacitor is mainly used in power supplies and is suitable for a wide range of applications such as filtering and bypassing, as well as regulating and blocking.
