Application Field

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in electric power system, computer digital system, communication electronic device, instrument and meter, medical electronic system and many other fields. It is also used in power supply filtering and AC by-pass to compensate the power supply ripple, and also can be used in many other related fields.

Working Principle

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors use an electrolytic medium made of an aluminum housing with a rolled anode foil and a dielectric layer. The anode foil is divided by a special layer of plate metal. The electrolyte is applied between the electrolyte and the capacitor to hold the electrolyte separator. When the capacitor is charged, a voltage difference is generated between the plates, forming a capacitance. When a reverse current is applied, the ions in the electrolyte are forced to move towards the reverse electrode, resulting in an increase in the charge on the reverse electrode. The dielectric becomes thinner, and the capacitance increases.

Another unique feature of aluminum electrolytic capacitors is that the capacitance decreases with increasing temperature. This means that when the temperature increases, the capacitance decreases, so the heat generated by the current passing through the capacitor can decrease the capacitance of the capacitor and affect its performance. This property of aluminum electrolytic capacitors is often referred to as thermal runaway.

In addition to its unique properties, aluminum electrolytic capacitors have also become versatile components due to their low cost, high capacity, and wide application. In various electronic circuits, aluminum electrolytic capacitors have broad application scenarios in filtering, bypass, and other related purposes.
