Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

An aluminum electrolytic capacitor (AEC) is a device made of two aluminum foil electrodes dipped in a solid electrolyte. It is used in electronics for power supply filtering, bypassing, coupling, and timing circuits. The aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in different applications due to their high capacitance, reliability and long life compared to other types of capacitors.

The basic structure of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor consists of a high surface area and high purity aluminum foil which acts as the anode and cathode material, a liquid electrolyte and an outer casing. The aluminum foil is etched to create an oxide layer that serves as the dielectric material.
