The V120ZU6PX2855 is a voltage-dependent overvoltage protection device, and is classified as a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) - Varistors, MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors). TVSs are designed to protect components and system from overvoltage transients, hence they are also referred to as "Surge Protection Devices".

The V120ZU6PX2855 is available in a plastic-sealed DO-204AH package, and can be used to protect sensitive circuits in automotive, electrical, computer, consumer or industrial applications. It has an operating voltage range from 6.7V and can withstand surges up to 2855V, which makes it an ideal choice for a variety of applications.

The working principle of the V120ZU6PX2855 is based on the Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) technology. MOVs are voltage dependent nonlinear devices that absorb and dissipate the energy from transient voltages. Under normal operational conditions, the MOV will remain an open circuit, and will only conduct when the voltage across it exceeds its threshold voltage. When the voltage across the MOV exceeds its threshold, the MOV will conduct and thereby act as a clamp which dissipates the energy from the transient event. The clamping voltage of the V120ZU6PX2855 is 2855V, thus it can safely divert and dissipate surges up to that voltage. Upon the completion of the voltage transient, the MOV will return to its original non-conducting state.
