V130LT10AP Application Field and Working Principle

TVSs – Varistors, MOVs are most common components utilized in electronic protection circuits for surge protection. Typical applications include: DC/AC power supply line protection, digital and telecom lines protection, computer peripheral protection, automotive electronics protection, and general over-voltage protection.The V130LT10AP is a state-of-the-art thermally protected surge arrester that embodies several features for superior protection, promoting user safety and reduced downtime should a surge occur. It is a type of Metal-Oxide Varistor (MOV) which uses a very low leakage current during normal operation. The V130LT10AP offers determined surge rating over a wide variety of AC line frequencies, from 50 Hz to 700 kHz, along with 500VAC working voltage and 130V nominal operating voltage.

V130LT10AP Working Principle

The V130LT10AP features a two-stage protection design which works in unison with a thermal protection feature to offer an unsurpassed level of surge protection. The first stage of protection comprises of a metal oxide varistor (MOV) element which functions by clamping excess voltage levels. This MOV element offers low leakage current during normal operation, while being extremely effective at clamping voltages.The second stage of the V130LT10AP protection design employs a gas discharge tube (GDT) element which offers additional clamping capability. This GDT element works by creating a short between the AC line and neutral when a voltage surge is detected.The thermal protection element of the V130LT10AP is engineered to protect the device against excessive temperature, washerless short-circuit or open-circuit conditions. This feature works by limiting the fault current during an excessive surge by disconnecting the MOV element from the AC line once the temperature reaches its threshold. Once the temperature drops under the threshold, the MOV element is automatically re-connected.

It is mainly utilized in medium- and low-voltage DC/AC power, telecom and digital lines for surge and transient voltage protection.The V130LT10AP is an ideal surge protector for DC/AC power supplies and medium voltage applications such as commercial lighting systems, building automation systems, industrial automation, medical equipment, and aviation.It could also be used in telecom and digital line applications including VoIP, FTTH, ADSL2+, T1, FT1, 4G/5G and GSM/GPRS systems.In conclusion, the V130LT10AP is a high-performance surge and transient protector with a two-stage element design which provides superior protection levels in various application fields.
