V18MLA0805A is a small-sized chip varistor designed by United Chemi-Con. This device is suitable for high-density circuit boards as well as application in consumer electronics, automotive and industrial equipment. This device has a very low profile with the thickness of 0.8 mm. V18MLA0805A is able to provide a wide range of functions, including overvoltage protection, and line-to-ground noise control.

Working Principle:

V18MLA0805A has a metal-oxide varistor body which is encapsulated with a high-temperature resistant resin for enhanced protection. When overvoltage occurs, the device is able to conduct and reduce the voltage to a safe level. This is done by the movement of charge carriers through the metal-oxide varistor body. This movement of charge carriers causes the metal-oxide material to become electrically conductive, hence providing protection from overvoltages and surges. The circuit can then be safely driven forward without any damage.

V18MLA0805A is offered with a wide variety of specifications and provides high-voltage surge protection with a maximum surge current of 100A per ms. The device can operate in temperatures of up to 125C. The device also offers excellent surge waveform performance with an 8/20µs voltage breakdown and surge resistance characteristics.

The device offers two types of terminal styles – the Bottom terminal type and the MIL Terminal type. The Bottom terminal type can be used for surface mount applications, while the MIL Terminal type is suitable for through hole designs. The device is approved by UL1449 and VDE. It meets the IEC 61000-4-5-2 EMC immunity standard.
