The TVS provides a rated stand-off voltage of 18V DC and a peak pulse power rating of 400W. Additionally, the V18MLE0805NH is AEC-Q101 qualified and is available in a variety of package choices. The diode is RoHS compliant and halogen free.
Working Principle:
The V18MLE0805NH is a standard, single line TVS diode. It is designed to protect against voltage transients caused by ESD, EFT, and other possible overvoltage transients. Utilizing Zener Breakdown and avalanche phenomena, the device clamps the voltage transient with minimum VF Forward Voltage drop and essentially zero current flow until the transient has passed. Once the transient has passed, the device automatically resets.
When the V18MLE0805NH is exposed to a voltage transient which exceeds its breakdown or avalanche voltage, it begins to conduct the transient current. As current passes through, the TVS device is designed to moderate the flow of current by absorbing the spike while ensuring that the downstream voltage does not exceed safe levels. This is done by clamping the voltage changes to a safe VF Forward Voltage level, also known as its Stand-Off Voltage, until the transient has passed. The VF Forward Voltage is an important measure of the device’s protection capability. The lower the VF Forward Voltage, the better the device’s performance.
Once the transient has passed, the device automatically resets to its off-state, effectively disconnecting it from the circuit. This limits the duration and amplitude of the transient; reducing the amount of damaging current to the protected device. The V18MLE0805NH is a low profile TVS device that is designed to minimize the effects of voltage transients in wide range of applications.
