TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) and MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) offer robust protection against spikes in power supply, as well as utilizing the voltage surge current to quickly and timely protect the components given in the system. The V250LU10CPX2855 is a Varistor with 30 Volt Peak working voltage (Vwm) and 2500A Peak pulse current. It has an average clamping voltage of 35V at 10A. It is designed to protect systems from damage caused by overvoltage transients.
The V250LU10CPX2855 Varistor is typically used in automotive, telecommunication, and industrial applications to provide transient overvoltage protection. This protection is beneficial in these applications, as it extends the life span of the system and its components. This Varistor is rated for -40°C to +125°C ambient temperature ranges.
The Varistor works based on the construction of its disc-type encapsulation. It is made of two zinc oxide discs and a variety of metal oxide coatings. The metal oxide coatings are typically composed of cobalt, vanadium, manganese, and bismuth oxide. The resultant Varistor can endure surges better than other types of protection technology.
The movable zinc oxide plates fit inside of the encapsulation to form electric contacts. This allows the varistor to be used as a large resistor element. When there’s an increase in the voltage, the electric field between the plates grows. As more voltage is applied, the electric field eventually creates a breakdown through the oxide layer, thus causing a surge in current.
The construction of the Varistor offers higher performance for overvoltage protection. The zinc oxide discs provide a large capacitance and helps the Varistor to quickly respond to the overvoltage force. The zinc oxide discs also absorb a high level of stored energy which helps the Varistor to discharge more quickly and efficiently.
In order to protect the components in the system, the AC or DC power is usually sent through the Varistor. When voltage spikes occur, the Varistor absorbs the surge current, discharges it, and then quickly reduces it to a safe voltage level. The Varistor then returns to the normal resistance when the voltage returns to its normal level.
The V250LU10CPX2855 Varistor can be used in a wide range of applications, due to its high voltage rating and ability to absorb large current pulses. This varistor can handle up to 2500A peak current with a 30V peak working voltage, and a 35V average clamping voltage at 10A. It provides overvoltage protection for multiple devices in a single system, and helps to prevent damage caused by power surges.
