TVS - Varistors, MOVs are components designed to protect electrical circuits against transient overvoltage. The V300LU40APX10 is a metal-oxide varistor (MOV) that can absorb large surge currents up to 85A and lns up to 40ARMS with no damage to the part. Its tear-drop shape and low-inductance construction brings high speed response to low-power devices, making it a preferred choice for transient voltage surge protection (TVS).

The V300LU40APX10 is equipped with an Isolation Base element, which helps the device to hold peak energy up to 20 kV. This board helps the device to increase the speed of response, and also to reduce the residual voltage. The device also has a bidirectional operating temperature range of -40 to +125 °C.

The Working Principle of the V300LU40APX10 is outlined below:

  • When a voltage spike occurs, the MOV will act as a surge clamp. It will sense the voltage and quickly absorb the excess energy before it is transferred to the protected circuit.
  • The MOV will absorb the excess voltage until a certain voltage threshold is reached. Once the threshold is exceeded, the MOV will reduce its resistance and conduct the overload away from the protected circuit by circulating current around the device.
  • Once the voltage threshold is passed and the MOV has redirected the current around the device, the voltage will start to decrease and the resistance will rise again. This will allow the device to absorb any remaining excess voltage and protect the circuit.

The V300LU40APX10 is ideal for protecting devices from high-voltage, high-frequency transients, and is suitable for high-speed data transfer applications. As aforementioned, it has an Operating Temperature Range of -40 to +125 °C, making it suitable for use in extreme temperatures. It has a high surge current rating of 85A and lns rating of 40ARMS, making it suitable for use on a variety of devices ranging from set-top boxes, household appliances, consumer electronics, laptops, and PDAs.

In addition to consumer electronics applications, the V300LU40APX10 is also suitable for industrial, automotive, and medical applications. It is widely used for protecting circuits from ESD, EFT, and surge transients, as well as providing input and output isolation for sensitive microprocessor-based systems.
