TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) diodes, Varistors and MOVs are common components used to provide this form of protection to sensitive hardware. Among these components, V56ZT05PX2855 is a widely used Varistor for over voltage protection.

Introduction

V56ZT05PX2855 is a varistor of the Zorrasteel® family made of High Reliability Zinc Oxide (ZnO) materials developed for protection of sub-gate oxide in MOSFET (Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor) devices. It has a lightning discharge current capability up to 17.5A. This varistor features extremely fast response time of 10ns and surge current rating of 20A. It has a clamping voltage of 11.3V, an ESD clamping voltage of 3.4V, and an operating voltage of 5.6V.

V56ZT05PX2855 is a highly reliable over-voltage protection varistor suitable for both industrial and consumer devices. Working Principle

As the surge voltage reaches the device\'s rated peak voltage, the resistance decreases substantially and almost turns the device into a short, clamping the voltage at the rated peak voltage.

The structure of the V56ZT05PX2855 also features curved grooves on both sides of the varistor which absorbs more energy during a surge event, so that a current peak up to 20A can be controlled.
