TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) includes varistors, MOVs and other series. V56ZT2 is a bidirectional, high-energy varistors. Compared to traditional MOV (Metal-Oxide Varistors ), V56ZT2 has the advantages of advanced design and smaller volume. It is mostly used in low and medium voltage applications. The working principle of V56ZT2 is based on the internal electrical field of the non-linear metal oxide film, which will absorb and clamp surge current and voltage efficiently. Here we will discuss the application field and working principle of the V56ZT2 in detail.
Application Field
V56ZT2 varistors can be used in various applications, including high-frequency noise suppression, cellular systems, and power supply systems. The peak current rating of V56ZT2 are up to 30A with peak surge capability up to 1500A. It has low internal capacitance, low reactance and wide frequency operation range of up to 20MHz. This varistor can also be used in AC applications, such as AC power line interruption, lightning protection, ESD protection, motor protection, etc. V56ZT2 also has excellent temperature and humidity stability, and can operate over a -55℃ to 125℃ temperature range. The clamping temperature coefficient for V56ZT2 varies from minimum -50%/℃ to 1100%/℃.Working Principle
At the core of V56ZT2 varistors is the non-linear metal oxide film. This metal oxide film is composed of a network of nano-particles. In a low or medium voltage application, the metal oxide film of this varistor will function in a non-conductive state. This means that there is no conducting path formed between two electrodes. Thus current will not flow through the metal oxide film. When a sudden change in voltage occurs, a conducting path is created within the metal oxide film. This will allow the current to flow through the V56ZT2. As the current flows, the metal oxide film will start to absorb the current and develop an electrical field within the varistor. This electrical field will then start to oppose any further increases in voltage. As a result, V56ZT2 can effectively clamp the surge current and voltage, protecting the system from damage.In conclusion, V56ZT2 varistors are mostly used in low and medium voltage applications with peak surge capability up to 1500A. The working principle of this varistor is based on the non-linear metal oxide film which will absorb and clamp surge current and voltage.
