Introduction

The VB-40170CHM3/I is a rectifier array integrated circuit (IC) with two separate channels and a maximum voltage that can be applied to the output of 40V. On-state current is limited to 0.8A. This IC incorporates an N-type MOSFET, a P-type MOSFET and a Schottky barrier diode in parallel between cathode and anode. The MOSFETs in each channel are pulsed to alternately enable and disable RECT1 and RECT2, thus allowing a bidirectional flow of current by reversing the voltage applied to the anode and cathode. When the voltage between anode and cathode gets higher than the turn-on voltage (40V, maximum), RECT1 is turned on and the current flows from anode to cathode, otherwise RECT2 is turned on and the current flows from cathode to anode.

Working Principle of VB-40170CHM3/I

When a load is connected between the anode and cathode, the VB-40170CHM3/I detects the voltage difference between the two electrical terminals. When the difference of the voltage is higher than 40V, the N-channel MOSFET is prompted and turned on which triggers the flow of current from anode to cathode. When the voltage drops below 40V, the P-channel MOSFET is prompted and turned on which causes the opposite reaction, thus completing the cycle and advancing the bidirectional flow via the same internal circuit.The IC offers a protection feature during electrical transients by virtue of a prominent feature known as “Diode Bypass”.
