TVS - Diodes

TVS - Diodes, also known as Transient Voltage Suppression Diodes, are used to protect against high-power, short-burst electrical surges. They function like regular diodes, but with a higher maximum voltage (usually up to several hundred Volts) and increased energy handling capability. This higher voltage allows the TVS - Diode to protect against the high voltage surges that may be experienced in many industrial, automotive, and other applications.

VESD08-02V-GS08 application field and working principle

The VESD08-02V-GS08 is a Transient Voltage Suppression Diode designed to protect against transients and inductive switching. It has an ultra-low capacitance, low leakage current and fast response time of 0.12ns. This makes it ideal for protecting sensitive electronic equipment, such as computer systems and industrial automation equipment, from potential damage caused by high voltage spikes or surges. It can also be used to help reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).

The VESD08-02V-GS08 is designed to clamp transient voltages up to 250V, dissipating the excess energy as heat. When the voltage exceeds the diode\'s maximum voltage rating, the diode will “break down”, quickly drawing up to 750mA at 8Volts. This will effectively limit the voltage surge and protect the device in the application. It is also designed to work in temperatures as low as -55°C and up to 200°C.

The VESD08-02V-GS08 also features a low capacitance-to-ground, which helps limit EMI generated by the application. The diode is also RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant and has an integrated thermal drain pad, making it suitable for high-power applications.
