VMK165-007T Application Field and Working Principle

The VMK165-007T is an array of eight high-side MOSFET switches designedfor automotive multi-timed applications, such as switching in and out gearbox solenoids and controlling fuel injectors. It is intended for applications with short to medium circuit lengths and employs low on-resistance of the MOSFETs to ensure efficient operation.

Application Field

The VMK165-007T is identical to the standard VMK165-007, but with an improved EMI performance. It is used in a variety of automotive multi-timed applications, such as switching solenoids, gearbox solenoids, fuel injectors, air conditioners, and ECUs. The availability of an auxiliary switching mosaic allows an optimized current sharing in certain applications, such as powertrain current sharing solutions.

Working Principle

The VMK165-007T is an array of high-side MOSFETs with integrated bootstrap circuits. Each of the eight MOSFETs is individually controllable and can be individually enabled or disabled by applying the corresponding control signal. Furthermore, the presence of two auxiliary switching modules allows for efficient current sharing between two adjacent MOSFETs.

The bootstrap principle implies that the chip requires additional power supply from a higher potential to switch the MOSFETs on. This is achieved by connecting an additional supply voltage to the chip. The MOSFETs are thus switched on by taking the ‘gate’ of the FET to the corresponding lower voltage.
