The VN920-E is a Power Management IC (PMIC) from STMicroelectronics. It is a high-performance, low-power switch, load driver and general-purpose industrial interface. The VN920-E is a fully integrated, low power PMIC which provides reliable, low-power control of power distribution and load driving systems. Its high-power output current drive capability makes it ideal for driving medium to high power loads such as power transistors or high voltage products with low voltage drives. It features low on-resistance, low self-heating, adjustable soft-start and slow turn-off functions, as well as protection against short-circuits, over temperature and over voltage.
The VN920-E provides two independent power supply channels, each channel with digital control over two switchable outputs. The two channels can be configured to provide either single-ended or I2C compatible outputs. Each channel can be used to drive digital loads, such as LEDs or logic-level signals, as well as analog loads such as resistance heating elements. Also, each channel provides configurable switching thresholds for over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-temperature protection.
The VN920-E offers a wide range of switch ratios from 1V to 4.5V and current limits from a few milliamps to more than 10A which is suitable for controlling medium to large current loads. The high power switch output stages provide fast edge speeds for pulse width modulation (PWM) applications. Additionally, the VN920-E allows for adjustable soft start timing and external sensing of load current.
The VN920-E is designed for use with a 5V DC power supply, and comes in a 16-pin QFN package. It is also available in a 6-pin TSOT package as the VN920-T. This PMIC is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C.
