.Modern technology is becoming increasingly pervasive within various systems and solutions. Therefore, it is important to develop reliable power management solutions that can be tailored to meet the needs of a particular application. The VND5050J-E power distribution switch, load driver is one such device that is designed to provide a reliable power distribution solution for industrial and medical applications. This device is designed to offer low power dissipation and low quiescent current, while providing a high switching frequency with exceptionally low on-resistance. Additionally, the VND5050J-E features a gatekeeper circuit which enables low power operation while maintaining a high level of noise immunity.
The VND5050J-E is a general-purpose, low-side switch with a load current rating of 5A, and is ideally suited for controlling the switching of auxiliary loads in power applications. The device utilizes an internal floating gate driver with an external shim circuit, allowing for up to 55µA of quiescent current for low power applications. Additionally, the VND5050J-E features an internal diode and P-channel MOSFET that is optimized for fast switching speed and low dropout voltage. The P-channel MOSFET increases the effective power efficiency of the device, while the diode ensures high-side switching current is pumped through the switch.
The load driver circuitry in the VND5050J-E is designed to effectively monitor and control the load current, allowing for high speed and precise regulation. This functionality is achieved through the use of an internal comparator, which monitors the voltage drop across the sense resistor. When the voltage reaches a predefined threshold, the comparator will trigger the switch and disable the load current quickly and accurately.
In addition to its precise switching capabilities, the VND5050J-E is provides various EMC protections such as ESD, surge and fault protection. The device’s gatekeeper circuit prevents gate-to-source leakage during the switching state, thus further increasing its noise immunity. Furthermore, the VND5050J-E incorporates a reverse body diode protection that acts as a low impedance path for the excess current.
