The VSC8489YJU-01 is a single-chip transceiver designed for both copper-based and optical fibre-based telecom applications. It enables a wide range of communication congestion issues to be addressed, from switch fabrics to broadband wireless access.The VSC8489YJU-01 integrates a wide variety of physical layer functions, such as basic framing, masking and scrambling for both traditional time-division multiple access (TDMA) and code-division multiple access (CDMA) cellular radio systems. It also provides physical coding and layer 2/3 management support for advanced cellular radio standards such as GPRS and UMTS. At the physical layer, the VSC8489YJU-01 provides the functions necessary to transfer frames between two entities. Specifically, it performs the following procedures: framing and masking of payloads, scrambling of frames, coding, and decoding.In addition to providing data transfer capabilities, the VSC8489YJU-01 also integrates media access control (MAC) layer functionality such as medium access control (MAC), encryption, packetizing, HDLC, and protocol bridging. This functionality allows devices to connect and communicate with one another over a variety of different access technologies, including Ethernet, 802.1Q, and ATM.At the application layer, the VSC8489YJU-01 supports numerous advanced communication protocols including IPv6, MPLS and IP tunneling. This allows it to facilitate communication between multiple networked elements, regardless of their individual access technologies.Finally, the VSC8489YJU-01 integrates numerous network management features including manage-by-exception, active and passive fault diagnostics, and configuration monitoring.
