VT2 level or float sensors have been widely used in various control systems for many years, primarily used to monitor the liquid level of a tank or vessel. The VT2 consists of a small, sealed PE float attached to a stainless steel stem; this is then sealed into an explosion proof container. The container is encased in a stainless steel or aluminium housing. The float is designed in such a way as to minimise the effect of wind and current on the stem, which increases accuracy. The float is free to move up and down along the length of the stem as the liquid level changes, enabling it to detect small changes in liquid level.
The VT2 is powered by an internal battery, however it can also be powered by an external DC source if required. It monitors the liquid levels in a tank or vessel using two sensing elements; a controlling float and an adjustable float. Both float elements are attached to the stainless steel stem. The controlling float is connected to a switch or relay, while the adjustable float is connected to a potentiometer. When the controlling float reaches the top of the stem, it will stop the relay or switch and when the adjustable float reaches the top of the stem, it will adjust the potentiometer.
The VT2 is a reliable and cost effective device that can operate in harsh industrial environments where accuracy must be maintained. It is designed to operate over the widest possible temperature range, from minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 105 degrees Celsius. As well as being able to measure liquid levels in a wide range of tanks and vessels, the VT2 can also be used to monitor the temperature of a tank or vessel, as well as the pressure inside a vessel.
