The WM8213SCDS/RV, referred to as SCDS/RV for short, is a Data Acquisition – Analog Front End device designed to increase the performance of integrated data acquisition systems. It is a high-speed and high-resolution, monolithic analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that provides an unparalleled combination of features, performance and flexibility. The ADC is capable of digitizing up to five different input signals at sample speeds up to 24k samples per second. A unique, low-power, self-calibrating architecture yields 10/12-bit resolution for each of the five channels.
Not only does this powerful device provide resolution and sampling speeds that exceed traditional ADC’s, but it also offers up to four fully configurable gain settings per channel, allowing high levels of flexibility in system design. Additionally, the SCDS/RV is capable of operating at temperatures ranged from –40°C to +85°C and has a linearity accuracy of ±1LSB. For even more performance gains, the SCDS/RV supports two external clock options that enable faster sampling rates of up to 12kHz.
The main working principle behind the SCDS/RV is that it converts analog signals into digital information through a successive approximation process. This approach starts by comparing the input analog signal with a pre-determined threshold to determine whether the signal is voltage at a point more or less than the threshold. Through successive comparison the SCDS/RV is able to determine the value of the signal with respect to the maximum range. The device then produces an output in the form of a digital code that represents the corresponding voltage level.
In terms of system applications, the WM8213SCDS/RV is ideally suited for data acquisition systems that require high precision, high speed performance. Its wide dynamic range and wide voltage supply of 1.65V to 3.6V makes it compatible for use with many different types of systems, from industrial and process control systems to instrumentation and medical diagnostic systems.
