Data Acquisition - Analog Front End (AFE) is the interface between physical and digital worlds, which bridges those signals from analog domain to digital domain. As signals getting more complicated, the demand for accurate, high-performance AFE components grows significantly. Therefore, WM8224CSEFL is developed to meet this higher requirement.
WM8224CSEFL is a high-performance analog-to-digital converter which features high accuracy and reasonable power consumption. It has an integrated continuous-time Σ-Δ modulator with 4-channel input multiplexer and a decimator with 10-bit oversampled output. The Σ-Δ modulator can provide up to 24 bits of resolution and the output rate can be delivered from 32 Hz to 0.5 MHz.
The circuit architecture of WM8224CSEFL is organized as follows: the 4-channel input multiplexer, low-pass filter, Σ-Δ modulator and decimator. The input multiplexer selects the signal from differential or single-ended input according to configuration. After passing through the multiplexer, the signal would be sent to the low-pass filter for removing any high frequency component. Then the filtered signal is further processed by Σ-Δ modulator, which reconfigures the analog signal into a higher resolution bitstream. Finally, the bitstream is decimated, which means a low-frequency signal at output is formed.
WM8224CSEFL is widely applied in various fields, such as process control, consumer electronics and automotive application. In consumer electronics application, the low-power consumption and low-cost design of WM8224CSEFL is ideal for portable or battery-powered devices, including medical instruments, Smartphones, remote and wearable products. In process control application, it is used in temperature measurement, flow rate control and pressure measurement. While in automotive application, the device can provide speed measurement, fuel level measurement and inertial sensor measurement.
