PMIC (Power Management IC) - Supervisors offer an intelligent solution to monitor, control, and gain supervision of critical power supply functions. PMIC Supervisors provide features like soft-start, time-delay reset, power-up/power-down sequencing, and phase-locked loop (PLL) synchronization for compact, low-power, cost-effective designs. X5328S8IZ-2.7T1 is an example of one such integrated circuit.This device is an extended version of the previously available X5328SXX family of PMIC Supervisors. It uses dual supervisors to provide for supervisory monitoring over a pair of power supplies up to 27V and 4A each. The X5328S8IZ-2.7T1 supports active low, active high, open drain, and push-pull reset outputs. It is equipped with an adjustable delay timer, allowing users to extend the reset wait time when sequentially enabling multiple system units. This PMIC Supervisor includes active low power-good and power-fail inputs, a power-fail latch, and capability to be configured as either a single- or dual-reset supervisor.
The X5328S8IZ-2.7T1 provides comprehensive control and monitoring of system power supplies including: a single reset supervisor; undervoltage protection of both supplies; power-on reset (POR) for each supply; smoothing capacitor discharge enable; active low power-good indication for each supply; an active high, active low, open drain, or push-pull reset output; an adjustable delay timer; and a power-fail latch. This device incorporates a voltage reference, a supply current driver, a voltage monitor and comparator as well as a reset timer to create what is essentially an intelligent power supply monitor.
The device\'s two supervisors allow the user to custom monitor two independent supplies. Initially, the system checks both supplies to ensure they are within their voltage margins. If either supply is too low, the corresponding reset output will be held low until the voltage is above the supervisor\'s threshold. The adjustable delay timer allows the regulating voltage to reach its final value in order to avoid any glitches due to soft-start or other system fluctuations.
The active low power-good signals on each of the supplies also provide a visual indication as to when the active voltage rails are available for operation. The supply voltage error (SVE) output pin will provide an active low signal when either of the monitored supplies fall below their trip points. Additionally, the power-fail latch will be set if the power-fail input is triggered while either of the reset outputs are active.
The X5328S8IZ-2.7T1 offers a simple solution for powering, controlling and monitoring multiple power supplies. With its dual supervisors, active low and high reset outputs, adjustable delay timer, and active low power-good signals, this device provides the flexibility and reliability needed to ensure proper power supply system operation. This PMIC Supervisor provides a compact and cost-effective solution, which is ideal for use in applications requiring multiple rails to be monitored and regulated such as servers, routers and switches, as well as automotive, test and measurement, military, and general industrial applications.
