PMIC – Supervisors are an integral part of the power management system and are used to support the lowest level of system management. The X5329PI-4.5A is a simple supervisor which provides a reset output when the supply voltage drops below 4.5V. It also provides an adjustable supply hold-up time and an open-drain output which can be used to drive an LED to indicate fault conditions.The X5329PI-4.5A is a CMOS Supervisory Circuit aimed at providing a single supply reset pulse when the VCC is below 4.5V. It is available in a small, 8-pin package, with a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C. The X5329PI-4.5A is able to control both 3V and 5V applications, with a VCC range of 2.3V – 5.5V.The X5329PI-4.5A is designed to monitor the power supply voltage, and when VIN reaches approximately 4.5V or 0.35V higher than the trip point, the RESET output will deassert for active continuation of the circuits. The RESET output latches LOW whenever the VIN drops below the reset threshold, latching off the circuits until a new RESET signal is issued when the VIN returns to normal.The X5329PI-4.5A features a sense input, which can be connected to the monitored VIN rail, to detect the reset voltage level and reset the chip. The RESET itself can be pulse width modulated via the RESET function and the open drain output can be used to drive an LED to indicate fault conditions. As a safety feature, the supervisor also features an internal overtemperature and short-circuit detection.The X5329PI-4.5A is designed for low current draw applications and for full operation, up to 1.5mA is required. The supervisor requires the power-up sequence time to be less than 140ms, with the RESET signal being asserted for 100ms within this sequence time. For reliable performance, the VOH and VOL must remain within 1.24V and 0.25V of each other, respectively.The applications for the X5329PI-4.5A include, but are not limited to, cellular phones, personal digital assistants, digital cameras, modem applications and electronic systems, where the reset and power-up sequencing functions are required.The X5329PI-4.5A is a simple and cost-effective PMIC Supervisory Circuit which is able to support the monitoring of a single supply voltage rail, the reset function and the open drain output. It is capable of providing accurate and reliable reset and power-up sequencing functions and is suitable for a wide range of portable electronic systems.
