XR76203ELTR-Q is a hig-performance DC-DC switching regulator and belongs to the super family of PMIC or Voltage Regulators or DC DC Switching Regulators. It features low-input voltage operation up to 22V, high-current and high-efficiency, fast transient response time of 2.2 msec, low ripple, and integrated Optimized Emulated RDS(ON) (for MOSFET) that minimizes channel heating and power dissipation. This regulators features adjustable outputs ranging from 0.8V to 5V.
The XR76203ELTR-Q is designed for a wide range of industrial applications with heavy loads such as IGBTs, Induction heating equipment, electroplating, power conversion and motor control, automotive and consumer applications. In addition, the regulator is also suitable for high-power applications such as battery charging and cold-start for UPS.
The XR76203ELTR-Q works on a dedicated control IC that makes use of a modified voltage-mode controlled PWM ( pulse width modulation) as the control strategy. It provides a constant current mode to ensure a stable output voltage. The voltage sensing input is adjustable. The switching frequency is programmable between 100KHz and 1.5MHz and it is internally synchronized to minimize the electromagnetic interference (EMI) and its generated noise.
It also features a unique Multi-level Output Stage Architecture (MLOSA) for improved reliability and reduced switching losses. The MLOSA allows to reduce the FET on-state resistance to optimize efficiency, power loss and to improve transient response. This architectures also improves the efficiency at the light load range, where the traditional single-output switches would fail to do so.
The XR76203ELTR-Q features Cycle-by-cycle Current Limiting (CBCL) and Over-voltage Protection (OVP) that protects the system against short circuit conditions and provides a better safeguarding. The CBCL takes into account the temperature derating of the selected components and their temperature coefficients. The thermal shutdown protects the device against thermal runaways due to excessive junction temperature.
The Heat Dissipation (HD) uses Maximum Power Point Tracking or MPPT that allows the device to operate at a higher switching frequency and therefore improves the power efficiency. The good thermal design of the regulator also helps in achieving a better power dissipation, low AC impedance and high-efficiency. The onboard thermal element also ensures a better thermal management of the system and monitors the junction temperature.
The XR76203ELTR-Q offers excellent transient characteristics with fast recovery from the load step changes. It also offers high-line and load regulation, good current step response and zero-voltage switching for improved efficiency. In addition, it offers flexibility for the users when programming the regulator using its integrated programmable parameters. The XR76203ELTR-Q can be easily and quickly implemented in any application.
