ZLDO1117K50TC Application Field and Working Principle
The ZLDO1117K50TC is a fixed, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator produced by Diodes Incorporated. It is a PMIC (Power Management IC), more specifically a voltage regulator of the linear type.
It is intended for a wide range of applications requiring high precision and low noise output such as motor control and many others. The device is housed in a very small and thermally enhanced TSOP package which allows the regulator to survive in high temperatures and keep the output voltage stable.

Working Principle:
The ZLDO1117K50TC incorporates an input voltage comparator, error amplifier, reference voltage source and a PMOS pass transistor. When the output load is changed, the device adjusts itself to keep the output voltage constant. The input voltage is compared to the voltage reference and the difference is amplified. This amplified signal is then fed to the base of the PMOS pass transistor, which changes its current carrying capacity accordingly. This change in current flow across the pass transistor adjusts the output voltage of the device.
The output voltage of the device is also adjustable by external resistors connected between the Adjust pin and Ground. This Adjust pin is internally connected to a comparator with a reference voltage inside the device.
The device is also protected from short circuits or excessive current draw from the output by a built-in overcurrent limiting circuit. This circuit senses the current through the output terminal and shuts down the regulator when the predetermined current limit is exceeded.
