The relationship between ATX power supply and switching power supply.

ATX power supply is a switching power supply (linear power supply corresponding to switching power supply). Obviously, the ATX power supply is just a small subclass of many switching power supplies-it was specifically designed to power the mainboard of a desktop computer.

In modern society, switching power supplies are widely used (he includes, but is not limited to, ATX power supplies). In fact, switching power supplies are ubiquitous both in modern office equipment and in-home appliances.

As a substitute for linear power supply, on-off power supply has many advantages that cannot be compared with linear power supply. The high frequency switching transformer, which works between the cut-off zone and saturation zone, has the characteristics of low energy consumption, which directly reduces the heat dissipation pressure of the power supply itself, and its volume can also be miniaturized.

The switching power supply has four configurations (topologies), as shown in figure 1 .

ATX power supply is a switching power supply, in which "switching power supply" has two main layers of meaning.

The first layer means that it is a power supply that is controlled by a switch, and the PSON is the switch of the ATX power supply. There is, by contrast, such a power supply, whose output is not controlled by a switch. Such a power supply has neither a mechanical switch like a lamp switch nor a logical level switch like an ATX power supply. As long as the power supply is connected to the ac market 220v, the normal target voltage can be obtained on its output side, for example, mobile phone charger, electric vehicle charger, LCD internal power board inverter-low-voltage power supply on the body panel.

The second meaning means that it belongs to the switching power sub-category in the power supply classification. This reveals the fundamental electrical principle of the energy conversion process of ATX in ac/dc and is the most scientific name. In the most typical ATX power supply with tl494+lm339 as the core, its auxiliary power part belongs to fly back topology, and its main power supply part belongs to half-bridge topology. The output power of the fly back topology switch power is between 0 and 150w. The output power of the forward topology switching power supply is between 50 and 500w. The output power of half-bridge switching power supply is between 100 and 1000w. The output power of the full bridge switching power supply is more than 500w. As a switching power supply, the basic function of ATX power supply is to complete the power conversion of ac/dc.
