1.AC 220V power supply is used in the radio cassette recorders and TV sets in the household appliances of the power transformer, but the internal parts of the power transformer adopt DC supply with different voltages electrical work. This requires a power transformer to turn the 220V ( or 110V ) supply voltage into the various AC voltages required, and then rectified, filtering and other circuits can work properly. The primary coils of power transformers often have taps to accommodate different grid voltages, such as 20, 11010, etc. The two side can have multiple windings to output different voltage and power according to usage.  Power transformers have different nominal power according to their usage.

 

2. Autotransformer and voltage regulating transformer

The characteristics of the general transformer are that the DC circuit between the one or two sides is completely separated, and the energy transfer between them is coupled by the magnetic field. But autotransformer and voltage regulating transformer are another form of transformer. They have only one coil, and the input and output terminals are separated from the same coil by tapping. There is a common end between the one or two sides of the transformer, so their DC is no longer completely isolated. The tap of the autotransformer is fixed, that is, a part of the voltage output from the primary side is fixed; on the other hand, the tap of the voltage regulator is used as the sliding joint of the brush, and the output voltage can be output continuously and adjustably with the movement of the brush. The rated power of the voltage regulator is 500W, 1kW, 2kW, and so on.

 

3. Medium frequency transformer

Medium frequency transformer ( also known as midweek ) can be applied from several thousand hertz to tens of megahertz. The general transformer only uses the principle of electromagnetic induction, and the intermediate frequency transformer also applies the principle of parallel resonance. Therefore, the intermediate frequency transformer not only has the characteristics of ordinary transformer transformation voltage, current and impedance, but also has the characteristic of resonance at a certain frequency. In the superheterodyne radio, it plays a role of frequency selection and coupling, which largely determines the sensitivity, selectivity and passband. Its resonant frequency is 465 kHz in the amplitude modulation receiver, and the center frequency of the intermediate frequency transformer of FM semiconductor radio is 10.7 MHz 100 kHz.
