Aluminum - Polymer Capacitors
A capacitor is an electronic component that stores electrical energy. Among the various types of capacitors, aluminum-polymer capacitors, also known as Al-poly capacitors, exhibit many advantages over traditional aluminum electrolytic capacitors. In particular, they have a much longer operational life, excellent voltage-coefficient properties, high ripple current and are much smaller in size.
The 10SVP150MX is an example of an aluminum-polymer capacitor packed in a standard radial leaded package. It is available in a wide range of capacitance values from 10μF to 1000μF with operating voltage range from 6.3 V to 100 V. It offers a wide temperature range of operation from -25 to +85ºC. With these features, 10SVP150MX applications include low ESR solutions for high ripple current applications, power supplies, dc-dc converters, switching power supplies, LED lighting and display panels.
The 10SVP150MX capacitor works on the same principle as a traditional aluminum electrolytic capacitor. It uses an aluminum foil as the electrodes and the electrolyte as the dielectric. The electrolyte is wetted within the dielectric, causing an electric charge to accumulate on the capacitance plates. The thickness of the aluminum foil and the electrolyte determine the capacitance value of the capacitor. The charge is stored in the capacitor until a certain voltage is applied and the capacitor then releases the energy as an electric current.
Unlike traditional electrolytic capacitors, aluminum-polymer capacitors make use of a unique non-conductive polymer layer as the dielectric medium. This layer has a very low leakage current and can withstand much higher temperatures and voltages. The polymer also helps reduce the overall size of the capacitor, allowing it to fit into smaller spaces. Additionally, the polymer helps reduce the overall ESR and DC bias. This makes the 10SVP150MX suitable for applications where high ripple current and low voltage coefficient are critical.
Thanks to its features, 10SVP150MX capacitors provide a high-performance alternative to traditional aluminum electrolytic capacitors. They have good ripple current capabilities and offer a wide voltage range, high operating temperature and smaller size compared to traditional aluminum electrolytic capacitors. This makes 10SVP150MX capacitors ideal for use in applications where a reliable and stable voltage-coefficient, excellent ripple current and good temperature stability are required.
